Labor & Employment Attorney
Job Description:
Labor and Employment Attorney
About the Opportunity
Looking to apply your labor and employment law expertise in a mission-driven legal environment that values both excellence and work-life balance?
This is a rare opportunity to join a respected California-based law firm with a deep legacy of serving public entities and select private clients for nearly a century. Known for its collaborative culture, low turnover, and modern remote flexibility, this firm empowers attorneys to make a real impact in local communities — all while advancing their own careers.
We’re currently seeking a Labor & Employment Attorney with 3 to 8 years of experience to join our growing team in the Bay Area. You’ll provide high-level legal counsel on public and private sector employment matters — including personnel policies, investigations, compliance, and collective bargaining.
Unlike traditional BigLaw environments, this role offers a sustainable 1850-hour billable target, meaningful work with public clients, and a clear pathway to partnership based on performance — not just rainmaking. You'll receive real mentorship, work on diverse matters, and enjoy the flexibility to thrive both personally and professionally.
What You’ll Do
- Advise public agency and private clients on labor and employment law matters
- Draft and review employment policies, contracts, and compliance documentation
- Provide counsel on issues related to wage & hour laws, discrimination, workplace investigations, and discipline/termination
- Support or lead negotiations in traditional labor law matters, including collective bargaining
- Collaborate with a seasoned team of attorneys who specialize in public law and employment litigation
- Maintain high-quality written work, analysis, and client communications
Who We’re Looking For
Required Qualifications:
- 3–8 years of relevant legal experience (labor and employment law with transactional emphasis)
- Licensed to practice in California and in good standing
- Exceptional research, writing, and analytical skills
- A Juris Doctor from an ABA-accredited law school
- Minimum 3.0 GPA if under 5 years out of law school
Preferred Qualifications:
- Public agency experience or strong interest in public law
- Employment litigation background a plus
- Experience from a boutique labor firm, Am Law environment, or city attorney’s office
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Located in California or open to relocation
Why Join This Team?
- Meaningful Work: Make a difference by serving public entities and local communities
- Remote Flexibility: 90–95% of attorneys work remotely or hybrid; no face-time culture
- Transparent Advancement: Partnership track without requiring a book of business
- Fair Compensation: Salary ranges from $140K–$220K, based on experience + annual performance bonuses
- Work-Life Balance: Target of 1850 billable hours
- Supportive Environment: Collaborative colleagues who mentor and care about your development
What We’re NOT Looking For
- Candidates seeking only private-sector or corporate clients
- Frequent job changers (less than 1 year in multiple recent roles)
